Educational Objectives. After attending this intermediate-level program in full, participants will be able to:
- Describe signs and symptoms of childhood depression.
- Identify evidence-based treatment options for depression in children of all ages.
- Summarize three major findings in childhood depression literature.
Description of Program: Depression often manifests differently in children than it does in adults. For this reason, accurately diagnosing childhood depression can be especially challenging. But what treatments does the scientific evidence support? This seminar offers a brief review of DSM 5 depression diagnostic criteria as it applies to children; explores the latest evidence-based treatment research; and examines other major findings in the childhood depression literature.
Presenter: Yoendry Torres, Psy.D. is a clinical psychologist who obtained his doctorate degree in clinical psychology (Psy.D.) with advanced training in family systems from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Torres has served youth and families through his clinical work in hospital settings, a social service agency, an integrated community clinic, an outpatient behavioral health center, and in private practice. As the co-owner and Executive Director at Intuition Wellness Center, Dr. Torres provides individual and family therapy to youth and young adults and oversees the Taekwondo Wellness Programming. In addition, Dr. Torres offers individual and group ethics, business and marketing consultation to other healthcare professionals in private practice.
