Handwriting & Sensory Play: 4-week series (Ages 6-8)

Does your child seem to avoid handwriting tasks? Do you have the sense that you’re “missing something?” Are you ready for the relief of expert help? In this small group class, Pediatric Occupational Therapist, Anne Berkery, OTR/L gets to the root issue of handwriting challenges.
Anne offers gentle instruction and fun sensory activities designed to facilitate regulation, internal movement awareness and coordination. These activities address sensory needs that commonly interfere with legible handwriting. Your child will love participating in the fun activities Anne has in store.
Support your child’s handwriting mastery with:
- nervous system regulation,
- improved kinesthetic awareness,
- hand and upper extremity strengthening,
- muscle & movement awareness exercises,
- grasp patterns guidance,
- letter formation practice.

Handwriting & Sensory Play is specifically designed for children, ages 6-8, entering 1st and 2nd grade in the fall. Based on the program “Handwriting without Tears,” there is a small amount of homework required to enhance the benefits of this class.

About the Facilitator: Anne Berkery, OTR/L has been a pediatric occupational therapist for over 30 years! In her work, Anne helps children (from birth to 12 years old) learn to regulate their emotions and improve their gross or fine motor skills through play. Anne also specializes in working with children with sensory sensitivities, as well as children with physical disabilities or concerns. Pediatric occupational therapy emphasizes having fun! Children can engage, focus, and practice skills that promote healthy development and integrate the new sensations and movements they learn. Anne has diverse training in neurology, anatomy, psychology, neuromotor development and art. This training paired with her positive mindset, allow her to uniquely meet children’s needs and turn their areas of weakness into strengths. Anne also co-facilitates Intuition Wellness Center’s Sensory Play & Social Skills group.
