“The body heals with play, the mind heals with laughter, and the spirit heals with joy.”

– Proverb

Hi. I’m Heather Finn. I’m a licensed clinical social worker. But you can also think of me as your family’s “partner in playful healing.” I am passionate about helping kids and families grow and heal from trauma, anxiety, and depression.

I have over 20 years of experience in the field, and I co-developed a therapeutic approach called Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Treatment (SMART). SMART is an evidence-informed treatment designed to help children and families improve their ability to respond to overwhelming emotions and feel more effective in their relationships.

SMART therapists integrate movement, sensation, and curiosity into treatment to nurture healing and growth, rather than relying solely on talking as the entry point for healing. If your child seems anxious or depressed or struggles behaviorally at home or school and states that they “don’t want to talk about it,” SMART may be a great fit.

I believe everyone possesses innate wisdom and a drive toward healing and growth. My training allows me to support the healing process and help it unfold. I work closely with the child and family to capitalize on the child’s strengths. At the same time, I help the child learn how to befriend their body’s internal signals and get curious about what these signals may be telling them. Through this process, the child discovers how they can use their body to better understand, regulate, and express their emotions, thoughts, and needs.

While I hold expertise in the field of mental health, I have deep respect for parents, who are experts on their child. The most powerful healing takes place when we engage in a partnership together. I love to provide parent support when needed. I may offer separate parent consultation meetings and/or invite parents to join sessions with their child, depending on what we decide will be most helpful.

In addition to utilizing SMART, I integrate other therapeutic approaches into my work when clinically indicated. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and the Attachment, Regulation and Competency (ARC) Framework.

I know from my years working with children and families that there’s always a “road to possible” even when things feel impossible. If you and your child are ready to find your “road to possible,” give Intuition Wellness a call at 520-333-3320 or click here to submit an appointment request online.
