Hi. I’m Monica Arriaga. I’m a licensed clinical social worker. I’m someone who promotes growth and allows for authenticity.

Behaviors tell you something, and I like to get down to what a child is trying to do or say with their behavior. Children can’t always advocate for themselves, and parents often get frustrated with their behavior. I like to help give children a voice and provide guidance to parents about how they can effectively interact with their child and respond to their child’s behavior.

I provide children with a safe place to express their emotions and increase their awareness, and I offer tools to help children cope with how they are feeling. I’m patient. I really listen. I never try to fit a kid into a box. I really want each child to be who they are. I adjust my approach to fit what the child needs, rather than expecting the child to conform to what I offer.

I often use a family systems approach and therapy modalities such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), client-centered therapy, and play-based therapy. I incorporate other approaches and therapy modalities as needed.

I strongly believe that when you stop learning, you stop growing so I take pride in bettering myself as a person and therapist, continuously learning what I can along the way. I’m very transparent and honest with parents and children which helps build strong and trusting relationships.

I know from my years of experience working with children and families that you and your child can grow and be more connected to each other and to other people too. When you are ready to do the work, you may be pleasantly surprised that every one is capable of change.
