Pediatric Occupational Therapist with Over 30 Years Experience
Your child isn’t just any kid. They (and you) deserve someone who truly appreciates all facets of them. Pediatric occupational therapy at Intuition Wellness Center focuses on tailored approaches designed especially to honor and empower unique kids.
Anne Berkery, OTR/L will listen closely to your concerns and insights. She will complete a thorough evaluation of your unique child and create comprehensive recommendations. Then Anne will work with you to create a meaningful treatment program designed to meet your child’s needs.
Anne has diverse training and an infectious positive mindset. Her gentle instruction, encouragement and fun activities will empower your child to engage, focus and practice skills that support healthy development.
Many of us don’t think of children as having an occupation. Yet, your child’s life is full of daily tasks! The occupations of a child include playing; getting along with peers; moving their bodies with coordination, rhythm and balance; dressing; eating; grooming; and learning. Pediatric occupational therapy helps a child improve their ability to engage in these tasks so they can grow and develop into healthy adults.
Occupational therapy (OT) can work for people of any age. However, Intuition Wellness Center’s occupational therapy clinic specializes in birth to 12 years old. Anne also incorporates parents! She’ll give you tools to support your child from home as well.
Intuition Wellness has limited its contracts with insurance providers to ensure that your family is able to receive the best care possible. Some OT services are directly billable to Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Please contact your insurance company with questions about your benefits. At your request, Intuition Wellness can also provide you with a superbill which you may be able to submit for reimbursement. Self pay fees are available to view on our pricing page.
Occupational therapy can help your child with fine motor skills; muscle tone; self care; attention and regulation; coordination; sensory processing; cognitive development; visual motor skills; visual perceptual skills; and infant development. Many diagnoses can be addressed and/or supported by Anne, including:
Before your first session, Anne will have you fill out a sensory checklist and background information. On your first visit, Anne will interview you and let your child play and get used to the OT clinic before completing standardized testing and other assessments to evaluate your child’s strengths and weaknesses. By the end of the first appointment, Anne can usually tell if your child would benefit from occupational therapy at Intuition Wellness. If so, you’ll be invited back for visits that focus on building up your child’s capacities and making it fun and empowering along the way.
Your child will have a tailored program that ensures that they feel both challenged and successful. Anne will likely incorporate lots of different methods and modalities into your child’s treatment, such as movement, art, music and sensory equipment. At the end of each appointment, you and your child will be given strategies to practice outside of the center. These activities are intended to build your confidence as a parent and help your child make steady and measurable progress. Treatment often lasts 6 months to 1 year, but this can vary depending on your child’s unique needs.
